At Merchant Link, we work with customers every day that are trying to get their POS or PMS systems EMV ready. The solution the merchant wants involves taking a chip transaction, moving the liability of the transaction back on to the card brands, and helping the merchant securely answer the PCI SAQ audit that the merchant may go through from time to time. Merchants also want the transition to affect their business as little as possible. This is understandable, as the reporting process slightly changes, mostly because the batching process now occurs in Merchant Link, not the POS or PMS system.
But what our customers must understand about this process, and about EMV, is that this is a partnership. Implementation involves communicating back and forth with our customers to get the PIN Pads the right configuration. We need open dialogue with our customers during this time to have a successful implementation. And then even when the payment devices are ‘live,’ it is still a partnership with the customer with ongoing support. EMV is not an “easy thing” to do. Itis a complex network-based solution. But when all the right parts and all the right pieces are put together properly; well. Then, it’s a beautiful thing.
